Massimo and Lella Vignelli for Poltronova 'Saratoga' Sofa
Massimo and Lella Vignelli for Poltronova, 'Saratoga' three-seat sofa, polyester lacquer and red leather, Italy, 1964.
This three-seat sofa named 'Saratoga' is designed by Italian designer couple Lella & Massimo Vignelli. The Vignelli's were known for their clear designs, this piece is therefore also completely free from decorative details. All attention goes to the essential form and material in this design by Vignelli. The “Saratoga” is one of the first examples of modular and modern living in twentieth century. In their own words: “We have designed this sofa because we really needed a sofa. And the sofa we wanted was one with an architectural character rather that a soft, smooth object. A sofa that could be set out in the middle of the room. We didn’t want it to be pushed up against the walls; we wanted it to move around as needed.”
We have multiple pieces by Vignelli and can provide upholstery and different colors of the frame according to your own wishes.
The leather on this piece shows signs of age and use, overall still in good condition except for one cushion that has a burned mark. Please note that the item is in good, used condition. Reupholstery is possible before shipping by our experienced craftsman in our own in-house restoration atelier. With high attention for the original, they make sure every piece retains its value and is ready for the many years to come. We kindly ask you to contact our design experts for further information about the endless possibilities our restoration and upholstery atelier has to offer. Of course, a locally organized reupholstery is possible as well.
