Theo Ruth for Artifort Pair of Lounge Chairs in Original Striped Upholstery
Theo Ruth for Artifort, pair of easy chairs, in original black and white fabric, wood, The Netherlands, 1950s.
This armchair is an iconic example of an Artifort piece furniture designed by Theo Ruth in the 1950s. The lounge chair is on the one hand simplistic, with elegant, subtle lines. On the other hand, the chair embodies a certain theatrical aesthetic with armrests flowing outwards and a buttoned back. The chair is equipped with wooden feet that are narrow and conically tapered. The fabric of both seat and back shows a black and white asymmetric, almost organic stripes. The armrests are all black. The lounge chair is still in its original upholstery, meaning it does show signs of wear and use, adding to the character and uniqueness of the chair.
