Theo Ruth for Artifort Sofa in Orange Red Upholstery
Theo Ruth for Artifort, sofa, fabric, lacquered steel, The Netherlands, 1970.
A Dutch two-seat sofa in orange red colored fabric by Theo Ruth. The back tilts slightly backwards and has the recognizable natural flow and feel of Ruth's design. The frame of the sofa is executed in an ingenious black coated metal frame. The seat seems to lean into the frame, inviting the sitter to sit down. The seating is thick and comfortable, which is something Ruth is known for.
Theo Ruth (1915-) can be considered as the Pioneer of the designs by Artifort. In 1936 he joined the company, first as cabinetmaker, later in 1939 as head of the design and development department. The Congo chair is his best known design and was a great sales success for Artifort.
Please note that the fabric is discolored and shows some stains and a few small holes. Reupholstery is possible before shipping by our experienced craftspeople in our own in-house restoration atelier. With high attention for the original, they make sure every piece retains its value and is ready for the many years to come. We kindly ask you to contact our design experts for further information about the endless possibilities our restoration and upholstery atelier has to offer. Of course, a locally organized reupholstery is possible as well.
