Theo Ruth for Artifort 'Congo' Easy Chairs in Patterned Fabric
Theo Ruth for Artifort, ‘Congo’ lounge chairs, wood, fabric, The Netherlands, 1952
Set of iconic ‘Congo’ easy chairs by Theo Ruth. These chairs have a unique construction, forced by tension and gravity. The back and seating are two separate elements that fit together to form this chair. The sloping legs nicely follow the lines of the seating and back. These chairs show beautiful organic lines and curves, which contribute to the character of the chair.
Theo Ruth (1915-) could be seen as the pioneer of the designs of Artifort. In 1936 he joined the company, first as cabinetmaker, later in 1939 as head of the design and development department. The Congo chair is his best-known design and was great sales success for Artifort.
Please note that we have more ‘Congo’ chairs in stock.

With high attention for the original, they make sure every piece retains its value and is ready for the many years to come. We kindly ask you to contact our design experts for further information about the endless possibilities our restoration and upholstery atelier has to offer. Of course, a locally organized reupholstery is possible as well.
