Postmodern French Sofa in Stainless Steel and Burgundy Velvet Upholstery
Sofa, stainless steel, velvet, France, late 1960s
This sofa grabs attention with its modern substantial design, combining a sturdy stainless steel frame with decorative velvet cushions. The steel base has a cool, industrial feel, while the cushions, covered in a rich purple-red velvet with decorative motifs, add warmth and comfort. The fabric's pattern creates a nice contrast with the smooth, shiny steel.
French steel manufacturer Uginox asked five designers to make a collection of furniture with stainless steel as key element. Designers Francois Monnet, Francoise See, Jacques Charpentier, Michel Boyer and Maria Pergay succeeded to create excellent furniture with this rather new material for the furniture industry. Maria Pergay kept working in stainless steel. She is known for her frivolous and expressive designs in this 'cold' and Industrial material.
