Mariyo Yagi for Sirrah 'Garbo' Chandelier in Nylon
Mariyo Yagi and Studio Simon for Sirrah, 'Garbo' chandelier, metal, nylon, Italy, 1976.
Enchanting 'Garbo' fringe chandelier designed by Japanese designer Mariyo Yagi and Studio Simon, and manufactured by Sirrah. The mounted metal ceiling base, houses four light bulbs that illuminate the interior of the elegant fringe curtains. These braided thin nylon ropes are based on Yagi's 'Nawa' rope principle; a metaphor of energy transfer between human beings merging together in a strong spiral. Within her work, the use of these fringes form an important element. The collaboration between Yagi and the Italian lighting producer Sirrah is typical for the 1970s as multiple collaborations arose between Italian manufacturers and Japanese designers.
