Marco Zanuso for Arflex 'Regent' Lounge Chair and Ottoman in Black Leather
Marco Zanuso for Arflex, lounge chair and ottoman model 'Regent', leather, metal, Italy, designed in 1960
This admirable lounge chair named ‘Regent’ is designed by the talented Italian designer Marco Zanuso in 1960. Characteristic for this model are the outwards pointing armrests and the dynamic lines of the seat. The designer decided to stay modest with decoration by implementing tufted buttons on the seat, which add a grandiose look to the lounge chair. Backrest, armrests and seat are currently upholstered in a black leather that shows admirable patina. Zanuso placed the seat on four short legs finished with a disc-shaped platform, which add a playful but still graceful detail to the design. Due to this lowered seating, the chair does not only look eccentric, but is undoubtedly comfortable to sit in. The matching ottoman is well-constructed which is realized by the clear lines and shapes in the leather frame. Functionality also plays a major role in the design, which can be seen by the presence of casters, which make it easy for the user to move it from place to place. The overall design is characterized by a balanced and sturdy appearance.
