Jan Vlug Rare Dining Table in Wood

Sale price$16,700.00

Jan Vlug, dining table, walnut, metal, brass, Belgium, 1970s

Glorious and rare dining table with characteristic and stunning executed tabletop. The table is made by Belgian designer Jan Vlug. Apart from the table top that catches the eye, the two legs are positioned in a triangle, which creates a beautiful visual effect, and are covered in brass on the bottom.

Used for the table top of this design is the end-grain cut, a particularly strong technique which shows a very refined patterned grain in the wood used. For this piece wood was used in rectangular sections. This technique was a favorite of Belgian designer Jules Wabbes, who was a close friend of Jan Vlug. The influence of Wabbes is clearly visible in this table, using the mentioned end-grain wood technique that he loved and used much in his work.
