Illum Wikkelsø for A. Mikael Laursen & Søn Three-Seat Sofa in Black Leather
Illum Wikkelsø for A. Mikael Laursen & Søn, sofa, model 'ML-140', leather, mahogany, Denmark, 1950s.
This sophisticated sofa shows understated elegance and great eye for detail, combined with outstanding craftsmanship, which is characteristic for the work of Illum Wikkelsø. Tapered legs executed in dark stained mahogany support this three seater sofa. The loose black leather seating cushions provide a very comfortable seat, emphasized by the flowing lines of the armrests and excellent proportions of this majestic piece of furniture.
Illum Wikkelsø (1919-1999) is trained as a carpenter and later studied at the School of Arts and Crafts in Copenhagen. He first worked for the Danish furniture maker Jacob Kjær and the architect Peter Hvidt and Orla Mølgaard until 1954 when he opened his studio on the outskirts of Aarhus. Here he designed especially simple and elegant seating with great functionality, now considered classics of Danish furniture design. The style of his work varies from Kaare Klint's classicism to the soft organic craft by Arne Jacobsen.
Please note that this item is in good, used condition. The leather shows patina and wear common for its age. We kindly ask you to reach out to our design specialists for more information.
