Illum Wikkelso 'Capella' Three Seat Sofa in Oak and Forest Green Cushions
Illum Wikkelso for Niels Eilersen, 'Capella' three seat sofa, oak, fabric, Denmark, 1950s
Timeless and elegant Illum Wikkelsø 'Capella' three-seat sofa. Crafted in the 1950s, this exquisite piece exemplifies the sophisticated simplicity and functionality characteristic of Danish furniture design. Its solid oak construction ensures durability, while the dark green cushions offer a refreshing contrast to the natural wood tones. The slatted back design not only adds to its visual appeal but also enhances its modern, airy feel.
Illum Wikkelsø (1919-1999) is trained as a carpenter and later studied at the School of Arts and Crafts in Copenhagen. He first worked for the Danish furniture maker Jacob Kjær and the architect Peter Hvidt and Orla Mølgaard until 1954 when he opened his studio on the outskirts of Aarhus. Here he designed especially simple and elegant seating with great functionality, now considered classics of Danish furniture design. The style of his work varies from Kaare Klint's classicism to the soft organic craft by Arne Jacobsen.
Kindly note that this piece is in good, used condition. The cushions are newly made in our in-house atelier and are perfectly ready for many years of use.
