Guarnacci, Padovano & Claudio Vagnoni 'Duna' Lounge Chair with Ottoman
Emilio Guarnacci, Felix Padovano and Claudio Vagnoni for 1P, pair of lounge chairswith ottoman, model 'Duna' plastic, faux leather, Italy, 1969
This chair and ottoman is designed by the Italian trio Emilio Guarnacci, Felix Padovano and Claudio Vagnoni for 1P. This design reflects the designers' deep interest in experimenting with new materials and assemblage techniques. The seating system called Duna is known for its extreme flexibility comprised of modular elements, allowing for the creation of different configurations, such as armchairs and sofas (with and without armrests). Baydur expanded polyurethane resin has been used for the construction of the frames. The voluminous cushions are executed in brown leatherette and add to the overall bulky appearance. The lounge chairs with ottoman were designed with functionality in mind and aimed to fully utilize the technical capabilities of the materials used in its production. This design aesthetic not only reflects the new production technology of the time, but also captures the redefinition of mobility in the 1960s-70s, which was driven by the desire for a playful and relaxed environment.
Dimensions of the ottoman: H 39 x W 58 x D 58 in cm
