French Postmodern Steiner 'Swany' Modular Sofa

Sale price$47,500.00

Modular sofa 'Swany' by Hugues Steiner and Sylvain Joly for Steiner, polyurethane, foam, France, design 1969

An eye-catching modular sofa in an unconventional choice of material, the 'Swany' modular sofa by Steiner, made in France, is a free variation of infinitely modular sitting elements, shaped by each person's imagination. The 'Swany' has established itself as a symbol of modernity as it was envisioned at the beginning of the 1970s.

The modular elements are made with a distinctive notch at the back of the seat, complemented by bolster backrest, which is secured with a buckle at the rear of the element. Made in glossy polyurethane, the white material not only adds a unique sense of intrigue but also enhances the overall experience with exceptional comfort, making it both visually captivating and inviting.

From the 1920s to the 1980s, Charles and Hugues Steiner ran the innovative 'Steiner' company dedicated to the art of seating. Steiner established itself through its aesthetic and manufacturing qualities, serving an ever-evolving modernity. Many young collaborators will work in this research workshop. Sylvain Joly joined Steiner in 1969 where he successfully collaborated on the design of the Swany sofa, together with Hugues Steiner. Designers like Pierre Guariche. René-Jean Caillette, Michel Mortier, Joseph-André Motte, Tito Agnoli, Kwok Hoï Chan, and Pierre Cardin have also designed furniture for Steiner.
