Erich Dieckmann Bauhaus Armchair in Walnut and Striped Fabric

Sale price$2,450.00

Erich Dieckmann for Staatliche Bauhochschule Weimar, armchair, walnut, fabric, Germany, c. 1926

Erich Dieckmann designed this rare armchair around 1926, beautifully exemplifying the Bauhaus methodology with "form follows function" as one of the guided principles. Dieckmann’s signature style is evident in the piece, characterized by strict geometry, rectangular structures, and flat wooden battens. The chair features a walnut frame paired with an upholstered seat in striped fabric.

Erich Dieckmann (1896–1944) was a prominent figure in the Bauhaus movement during its Weimar period. He studied architecture at the Technische Hochschule Danzig (now Gdańsk University of Technology) and later pursued painting at Dresden. From 1921 to 1925, Dieckmann was a student at the Staatliches Bauhaus in Weimar. Early in his career, he began designing furniture, notably creating the “Typenmöbel” in 1927 for an apartment designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe at the Weißenhof-Siedlung in Stuttgart.

Kindly note that the piece is in good, used condition. The fabric is worn, exhibiting stains and wear marks. Reupholstery is possible before shipping by our experienced craftspeople in our own in-house restoration atelier. With high attention for the original, they make sure every piece retains its value and is ready for the many years to come. We kindly ask you to contact our design experts for further information about the endless possibilities our restoration and upholstery atelier has to offer. Of course, a locally organized reupholstery is possible as well.
