Carlo Bartoli for Rossi di Albizzate 'Bogo' Coffee Table in Leather
Carlo Bartoli for Rossi di Albizzate, 'Bogo' coffee table, leather, glass, aluminum, Italy, 1976
A postmodern design by Italian master of architecture and design Carlo Bartoli (1931-2020) known for his works that are immediately recognisable. Design in the seventies was all about going beyond the strict conventions of modernism, with the exploration of the different qualities of materials, use of pop colors, and peculiar & symbolic appearances as outcome. The overall appearance of the table is strict and linear, yet the round edges of the top break the strict layout. The open space in the middle serves as a storage facility to house one's belongings. The base is executed in clear glass which offsets the heaviness of the top. The blue and grey color fields draw attention to the geometric arrangement. Defined by simplicity, clarity and absence of ornamentation, this piece of furniture is exemplary of architectural minimalism.
