Carl Gustaf Hiort af Ornäs Large 'Välipala' Wall Unit
Carl Gustaf Hiort af Ornäs for Huonekalu Mikko Nupponen, 'Välipala' bookcase, teak, lacquered wood, Finland, 1950s
Designed by the Finnish designer Carl Gustaf Hiort, this wall unit is an architectural masterpiece constructed from various wooden elements, resulting in a clear, architectural piece that is flexible in use. A set of three black tripod legs hold a substantial teak shelf, its warm tones contrasting elegantly with the surrounding elements. Above, a white shelving system takes center stage that is completely adjustable and can therefore be arranged in such a manner that the user will suit best. The open construction allows the user to display objects such as books and glassware to one’s taste in this light shelf design.
