Antonín Šuman for TON Dining Chairs with Red Frames and Patterned Upholstery
Antonín Šuman for Ton, +75 armchairs model ‘E4309’, lacquered beech, fabric, Czech Republic, 1977
A large set of dining chairs that were designed by Antonín Šuman and manufactured by TON. These chairs feature a wonderful bentwood frame that is colored in an eye-catching red shade. Engraved rings add a subtle detail to the frame. Currently upholstered in a purple pattern fabric, the chair features a lovely composition of colors and textures.
TON was founded after World War Two in former Thonet factories and continued with the furniture making tradition set up by Thonet. In the 1960s, TON asked various architects to contribute to research and developments of new designs using the technology of bentwood and leading to new, more contemporary designs.
