Adrien Audoux and Frida Minet for Vibo Armchairs in Wood and Straw

Sale price$2,750.00

Adrien Audoux & Frida Minet for Vibo Vesoul, armchairs, beech, straw, France, 1950s.

Pair of armchairs designed by the duo Adrien Audoux and Frida Minet. The seating and backrest are made of woven hemp from the abaca plant which is close to the species of the banana plant. This natural style is typical for the French design of Audoux-Minet and Vibo that established itself in Marseille. The blond wood provides a modest, balanced background to the rough abaca of the back and seat.

Adrien Audoux and Frida Minet are a French designer couple. They mainly designed pieces during the 1940s and 1950s and their general ethos was to create furniture made out of accessible materials. Therefore, in their designs, they often opted for different kinds of woods and natural ropes. With their furniture, they wanted to go against the wealthy character of design and make pieces that are more homespun and have a rustic feel.
