William Watting for Fristho Sideboard in Wood and Brass
William Watting for Fristho, sideboard, teak, brass, lacquered wood, The Netherlands, 1950s.
Elegant lacquered wooden sideboard with teak top and brass detailing. Very slim tapered brass legs that come together in two triangle shapes that makes the design light and subtle. There is plenty of storage space, three drawers are situated in the middle of the sideboard and there are double doors with shelving inside at both sides.
Fristho (1921-1978) was a design manufacturer in the north of The Netherlands. Jean Baptist Merckx and Gustaaf Andries de Vries founded the company. They had a good eye for the time and at an early stage adopted both Scandinavian and American design. In the sixties, Fristho advertised themselves with being 'No. 1 in Nordic design'. At the same time Fristho was rooted in Dutch functionalism.
