William Andrus for Steelcase Coffee Table in Fiberglass Plexiglass Mirror
William C. Andrus for Steelcase, coffee table, lacquered fiberglass, plexiglass, mirrored glass, United States, 1970s
Designed by William C. Andrus for Steelcase in the 1970s, this coffee table is a quintessential example of the era's innovative design. The table features a white fiberglass shell, a material that was widely used during that time for its durability and sleek appearance. The top is adorned with a tinted mirrored glass surface. The base is composed of a round, contoured transparent lucite platform, which creates the illusion that the table is floating. This piece was part of the '465' series for the Soft Seating program in 1972. Andrus achieved a striking design statement through the use of modern materials and the table's distinctive sheer form, characterized by its round edges and floating base.
Kindly note that the piece is in good, used condition with signs of age and use. This includes scratches on the various materials. Restoration is possible before shipping by our experienced craftspeople in our own in-house restoration atelier. With high attention for the original, they make sure every piece retains its value and is ready for the many years to come. We kindly ask you to contact our design experts for further information about the endless possibilities our restoration and upholstery atelier has to offer. Of course, a locally organized restoration is possible as well.
