Waldemar Rothe for Rosenthal 'Relaxer I' Hammock
Waldemar Rothe for Rosenthal, 'Relaxer I' hammock, beech, fabric, rope, iron, Germany, 1974
For a calm day off or a break in-between, this wonderful hammock by Waldemar Rothe will ensure a comfortable and satisfying body relaxation. The design is strongly built comprised of a solid wooden framework, further reinforced by iron rods. The lying element has a traditional feel associated with the sunny summer holidays, composed of cotton ropes. A vibrant and colorful padded cushion in grey, yellow, pink, beige, and blue hues, provides the user more comfort. This piece can be positioned freely in the room with the wheels allowing for easy movement. A decoration is subordinate to the constructive element, focusing on the essential composition of geometric forms and usage of materials. The design highlights the hammock's constructive components, giving it a raw and sophisticated look, yet the specific choice of materials, such as the warm-toned beechwood and the cotton ropes, joined by the multicolored cushion, lend it a playful and tranquil appearance.
Please note that this item is in good, used condition with signs of age and use. The cotton ropes show wear and the cushions contain some stains. Restoration is possible before shipping by our experienced craftsman and -women in our own in-house restoration atelier.
