Rafael Carreras Puigdengolas for MYC-Gavina, 'San Remo' lounge chair, leather, lacquered wood, Spain, design 1963

Multi-disciplinary artist from Spanish origin, Rafael Carreras Puigdengolas (1933-2013), commenced his artistic path in various fields – architecture, design, and education. The San Remo, created in the year 1963, exemplifies his visionary approach towards design. This model embodies a substantial and strong profile, characterized by a well-defined geometric structure. The prominence of this particular geometry is emphasized by the deep, black tone of the wooden framework. Departing from convention, the ears are reinterpreted through a modernist lens, adopting crisp rectangular forms and a notable opening. The strength of the piece is enhanced by the generous, padded cushions upholstered in a rich cognac leather. The San Remo was selected for the ADI/FAD Delta awards in 1964.

Kindly note that this item is in used condition, the leather is patinated and shows strong signs of wear and use. Reupholstery can be done before shipping by our experienced craftspeople in our own in-house restoration atelier. With high attention for the original, they make sure every piece contains its value and is ready for the many years to come. We kindly ask you to contact our design experts for further information about the endless possibilities our restoration and upholstery atelier has to offer. Of course, a locally organized reupholstery is possible as well.
