Post-Modern French Pair of Lounge Chairs in Brushed Steel & Grey Upholstery

Sale price£11,043.75

Pair of lounge chairs, brushed steel, fabric, France, 1970s

These armchairs are a prime example of the 1970s French design movement, which emphasized modernism and industrial materials, particularly (stainless) steel. The sleek lines and clean geometry are indicative of a minimalistic approach. Key figures in this movement, such as Michel Boyer, Roger Tallon, and Maria Pergay, were known for their innovative use of steel in furniture. Other makers included François Monnet, Jacques Charpentier, Roche Bobois, Maison et Jardin, Xavier Féal, and Pierre Folie.

The overall design is pure and simple, revolving around an architectural structure with its striking horizontal and vertical lines and apertures. The exposed steel base, with its sharp angles and brushed surfaces, contrasts beautifully with the soft fabric upholstery. The rear, sides, and undersides of the piece are designed with equal attention to detail as the front. The chair's back and base are encased in steel panels, giving it a striking presence from all angles. The restrained color palette, consisting of the matte brushed steel and neutral-toned fabric in the colors grey, beige and hints of blue, enhances the minimalist feel of the piece. A splendid French modernist design that blends innovative use of materials with a commitment to sleek, geometric forms.

Kindly note that the pieces are in good, used condition with signs of age and use. This includes some stains in the fabric. Reupholstery is possible before shipping by our experienced craftspeople in our own in-house restoration atelier. With high attention for the original, they make sure every piece retains its value and is ready for the many years to come. We kindly ask you to contact our design experts for further information about the endless possibilities our restoration and upholstery atelier has to offer. Of course, a locally organized reupholstery is possible as well.
