Pierre Paulin for Artifort, pair of armchairs, model '442/3', grey upholstery and steel by Pierre Paulin for Artifort, the Netherlands, 1960s

These comfortable chairs shows elegant steel details. The combination of steel and the upholstery give these chairs their modern and sophisticated look. The loose cushions give this modern and clean design a more soft and friendly appearance and maximize the comfort of this set. The small steel legs provide this design a more open look.

Pierre Paulin (1927-2009) was a French post-war designer who studied sculpture. But his study was not what influenced Paulin as he was a mediocre student and is a self made designer, so he claimed himself. Paulin saw the importance of the social role of design and for this he looked at Nordic modernity and simplicity for inspiration. A great talent of Paulin was that he could envision the concepts of his furniture in 3D in his mind. Paulin was someone who researched his design thoroughly.
