Pierre Paulin for Artifort 'F-444' Easy Chair in Cognac Leather

Sale price£5,558.44

Pierre Paulin for Artifort, F-444 easy chair, metal and cognac leather, the Netherlands, circa 1962.

This cognac leather F-444 chair is designed by Pierre Paulin for Artifort in 1962. This chair shows sharp lines and an angled open seat that features as a floating seat. Due the use of a metal frame and cognac leather a beautiful contrast and thus a modern expression is created. The structure of the chair has a beam structure and saddle leather. The cognac saddle leather shows signs of age and use. It's still usable but features a rich patina on the corners where the frame touches the leather. Pierre Paulin (1927-2009) was a French post-war designer who studied sculpture. Paulin saw the importance of the social role of design and for this he looked at Nordic modernity and simplicity for inspiration. A great talent of Paulin was that he could envision the concepts of his furniture in 3D in his mind. Paulin was someone who researched his design thoroughly.
