Paul T. Frankl for Johnson Furniture Dining Table in Maple and Cork
Paul T. Frankl for Johnson Furniture Company dining table, maple, cork, United States, circa 1950
Extendable dining table designed by Paul T. Frankl for the Johnson Furniture Company, dating back to around 1950. This table stands out for its remarkable appearance, featuring a cork tabletop contrasted by a dark, geometrically designed maple base. The tabletop can be expanded with two additional leaves that fit seamlessly in the middle, allowing for a larger, more accommodating surface when needed. Even though this design is very potent, the main goal of the pieces Paul T. Frankl developed for the Johnson Furniture Company was to create relaxed and unaffected designs that were perfect for furnishing suburban American homes in the 1950s. Most designs were composed of four principal lines, and have strong Asian-inspired influences.
Kindly note that the table is in good, used condition with signs of age and use. This includes scratches and marks on the table top. In addition, a structural issue regarding the extendable feature needs to be reviewed. Restoration is possible before shipping by our experienced craftspeople in our own in-house restoration atelier. With high attention for the original, they make sure every piece retains its value and is ready for the many years to come. We kindly ask you to contact our design experts for further information about the endless possibilities our restoration and upholstery atelier has to offer. Of course, a locally organized restoration is possible as well.
