Mario Botta for Alias Pair of 'Obliqua' Sofas in Zebra Print Upholstery
Mario Botta for Alias, pair of sofas, model ´Obliqua´, fabric, black lacquered wood, Italy, circa 1983.
Bold pair of 'Obliqua' sofas designed by Mario Botta for Alias. Upholstered in eccentric zebra print fabric, this set will definitely stand out in one's interior. The design of the frame features sharp outlines as seen on the arm- and backrest. A black lacquered rectangular wooden base supports the seating. Due to the ingenious design of the seating area, that inclines when applying pressure, makes these sofas extremely comfortable as well.
Mario Botta (1943 -) was born in the south of Switzerland. After attending the Art College in Milan he then continued his studies at the University Institute of Architecture in Venice where he studied under Carlo Scarpa and Giuseppe Mazzariol until 1969. During his studies he also got to know Le Corbusier and Louis I. Kahn. Botta’s own studio focusses since 1970 onwards on public buildings as well as private projects and furniture design. In 1983 Botta got nominated as a professor at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale in Lausanne and since then enjoys teaching next to his practice as a designer and architect.
Please note that the fabric and foam shows signs of wear and use, including tears, and that we advise replacing it. The lacquer on the base needs restoring too. Reupholstery and restoration can be done before shipping by our experienced craftspeople in our own in-house restoration atelier. With high attention for the original, they make sure every piece retains its value and is ready for the many years to come. We kindly ask you to contact our design experts for further information about the endless possibilities our restoration and upholstery atelier has to offer. Of course, a locally organized reupholstery is possible as well.
