Larsen & Bender-Madsen for Fritz Hansen Set of Eight Dining Chairs in Oak
Einar Larsen & Aksel Bender-Madsen for Fritz Hansen, set of eight armchairs, model 4205, blue and turquoise upholstery, oak, Denmark, 1950s
These sculpted dining chairs are executed with a rounded back. The chairs feature a blond oak frame that forms a great color palette with the blue and turquoise fabric. The chairs are solid and have rounded, soft edges seats and backs. The interesting thing about this design is the edge that has been taken out of the back seat where the armrests connect with the corners of the back. This creates a certain graphic, robust look.
Larsen (1917-1985) and Bender Madsen (1916-2000) were both educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Not only their friendship, but also their collaboration lasted a lifelong. From 1947 on they developed over more than 300 designs together. Always characterized by a clean, simple and timeless design.
