Kinetic Ingo Maurer 'Ilo Ilu' Light Sculpture
Ingo Maurer for Ingo Maurer GmbH, kinetic light sculpture model 'Ilo Ilu', steel, wood, plastic, metal, glass, Germany, 1986.
This eccentric light sculpture named ‘Ilo Ilu’ is designed by the ingenious German designer Ingo Maurer (1932-2019) and finds itself at the intersection of art and design. Maurer opened his own studio ‘Design M’ in Munich, 1966. This formed the basis for the lighting manufacturer ‘Ingo Maurer GmbH’, which began life in 1973. This particular design is well-thought out resulting in an extraordinary construction of geometrical parts in different colors and shapes. The halogen lamp is equipped with a completely adjustable light beam, made possible by the tilted flat glass mirror disc that reflects the light and a counterweight system established by the blue ball. The long shaped arrow is adorned with a red and neon green sharp arrowheads, adding a playful touch to the whole composition. The arrow is held together by the white ball and closed at the ceiling with a wooden mount. The craftsmanship of the creator is truly evident in the artistry and functionality of the lamp. Taking everything into account, the lamp bears visual interest and can serve as a monument in any décor.
