Katavolos, Kelley and Littell for ICF Set of Six T-Chairs in Black Leather

Sale price£10,545.63

William Katavolos, Douglas Kelley, and Ross Littell for ICF de Padova, set of six 'T-Chair' dining chairs, leather, enameled steel, chrome-plated steel, Italy, 1952

This set of elegant and playful three-legged chairs has a very delicate look. The chairs are curvaceous and sculptural and feature wonderful detailing in both seat and legs. The leather is connected to the frame on three points, resulting in a floating seat. The steel frame holds the leather by means of three separate T-shaped metal rods that are connected via a black connective T. Hence the nickname T-chair.

In 1949, a partnership began between William Katavolos, Douglas Kelley, and Ross Littell, all alumni of The Pratt Institute in New York. The three men formed a design studio, which can be considered as part of the so-called Good Design movement of the 1950s: producing furniture in a minimalistic style and usually rendering in lightweight materials. Together they produced a line of furniture called Laverne Originals. Among their renowned creations, the T-chair stood out as particularly noteworthy. This iconic chair design has earned a place in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Kindly note that one of the chairs needs to be repaired. Please reach out to our design specialists for further information.
