Sale price£20,316.02

Jabob Kjær for Jacob Kjær Møbelhaandværk, set of four 'UN' armchairs model 'B37', original black leather, mahogany, Denmark, design 1949, manufactured 1957

Stunning set of 'UN' chairs by Jacob Kjær manufactured in 1957. The Danish designer Jacob Kjær was creating this particular model for the United Nations Building in New York City. The strong, elegant form of the round backrest in combination with the light frame, forms a truly balanced composition. Lightness is created through the slim proportions of the frame which is executed in mahogany. Together with the original black leather with admirable patina this set of armchairs is visually striking. A manufacturer's label can be found under the seat.

Jacob Kjaer (1896-1957) started working as a furniture designer in 1915. From 1918-20 he studied at the Institute of Arts and Crafts Museum in Berlin, then worked in Paris and returned to Copenhagen in 1926. Here, he opened his own workshop. His highly skilled craftsmanship and designs got honored with the Hand Work Medal in 1954.
