Hans Hopfer for Wiener Werkstätte 'Castell' modular sofa, leather, Austria, design 1972

Stunning and sizable modular sofa designed by Hans Hopfer for Wiener Werkstätte. This grand sofa exists of various Tetris-shaped pieces, all newly reupholstered in a beautiful, soft cognac colored leather. Design in the seventies was all about going beyond the strict conventions of modernism, with the exploration of the different qualities of materials, use of colors, and peculiar shapes and proportions. In the design world of the 1970s, it was commonplace to see sectional sofas featuring a soft, bulky layout and rendered in vibrant colors. This seamless seating system consists of ten seating elements, and two ottomans. Due to the many differently shaped pieces, the possibilities of arranging the pieces are endless. Maximum comfort is guaranteed by means of the thick seating cushions and the large seats.

Please note that this sofa is newly upholstered and is in great condition.
