Giuseppe Rivadossi, secretaire, walnut, wood, iron, Italy, 1960s

This secretaire, crafted by Giuseppe Rivadossi in Italy during the 1960s, exemplifies the artistry and dedication to craftsmanship for which Rivadossi is renowned. Executed in walnut, the piece is both functional and sculptural in its appearance. The design showcases well known features of Rivadossi's work, including the distinctive wooden joints visible on the base. These joints highlight his commitment to traditional woodworking techniques and add a structural and aesthetic dimension to the piece. Additionally, the iron chain, used to support the drop-down writing surface, serves as both a practical and decorative element. This secretaire is further enriched by its array of finely detailed drawers, each featuring unique carved patterns, creating a beautiful interplay of texture and depth.

Giuseppe Rivadossi (1935) was born in Monteclana di Nave, Italy, where he continues to live and work. His journey with wood carving began at a young age, each piece embodying his poetic vision of life. In 1962, Rivadossi took over the carpentry business founded by his father, Clemente, in 1920, transforming it into an atelier, or rather a creative workshop. In 1976, Rivadossi and his collaborators established ‘Officina Rivadossi’, where he began crafting unique wooden objects and modern furniture, blending artistry with craftsmanship.

Kindly note that this piece is in good, used condition and shows signs of wear and use common for a piece this age.
