Giuseppe Rivadossi for Officina Rivadossi Unique Side Table Cubes in Pine
Giuseppe Rivadossi for Officina Rivadossi, cubic 'blocks' side tables, pine, Italy, 1970s
These cubic-shaped side tables are very rare works - only made once - by wood master Giuseppe Rivadossi, reflecting a heavy, hand-worked style that shows the maker’s touch in every groove and indent. Despite the simple cubic form, there is a real depth and complexity in how the surfaces are finished. Treating the wood like a sculpture, the pieces are carefully shaped from solid pine, accented with rectangular openings and gouge marks. The edges are squared, but they still feel warm, almost soft to the eye because of the natural texture and rounded contours. All four cubes fit together to form a cluster, yet each has its own character in the way the wood knots and markings appear.
Giuseppe Rivadossi (1935) was born in Monteclana di Nave, Italy, where he continues to live and work. His journey with wood carving began at a young age, each piece embodying his poetic vision of life. In 1962, Rivadossi took over the carpentry business founded by his father, Clemente, in 1920, transforming it into an atelier, or rather a creative workshop. In 1976, Rivadossi and his collaborators established ‘Officina Rivadossi’, where he began crafting unique wooden objects and modern furniture, blending artistry with craftsmanship.
