Giuseppe Davanzo for Appiani Selezione, set of eight dining chairs 'Serena', elm, plastic, Italy, 1960s

This set of eight Italian dining chairs was designed by Giuseppe Davanzo in the 1960s. On a wooden frame consisting of multiple squared frames rest the round seat and round backrest. The frame shows a warm tone of the elm wood with black metal connections. The seat and backrest are made of red plastic that catches the viewer's eye. Due to their roundness and bent edges and their attractive color the chairs get a certain playful character.

Giuseppe Davanzo (1921-2007) was born in Ponte di Piave. After serving in the Second World War, Davanzo studied at the Regio Istituto Universitario di Architettura in Venice. His work was mostly influenced by Carlo Scarpa and Franco Albini. The designer died in 2007.
