Finn Juhl Sofa in Mint Green Upholstery

Sale price£7,776.54

Finn Juhl, sofa model '57', fabric, steel, teak, leather, Denmark, design 1957, later production

An extraordinary sofa designed by Finn Juhl. The sofa was exhibited for the very first time in the Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen during 1957. The extravagant design is characterized by the armrests that look to resemble the spread-out wings of a bird. The light mint green fabric upholstery, with the elegant steel legs enforce this airy and flight like comparison, making this sofa an interesting focal point in every interior. Please note that this sofa is a more recent production by One Collection.

Finn Juhl (1912-1989), born in Denmark, planned on becoming an art historian when he was young. His father however decided it would be a better career move if he went to become an architect. After his architecture degree Juhl worked for ten years with Vilhelm Lauritzen. At the age of 33 Finn Juhl opened his own furniture design practice. In the 1940s he designed a number of creations that regenerated Danish furniture design, and broke with the established furniture tradition. Juhl is known as the one of the most important pioneers of Danish design. He was in fact the first Danish furniture designer to gain widespread international recognition. His work was vital to spreading the “Danish Modern” concept around the world. His designs are re-known for being exquisitely elegant, refined up until the smallest detail and extremely well executed.
