Sale price£35,590.00

Edward Wormley for Dunbar, 'Oasis' sofa, model '5200', reupholstered in camel wool, mahogany, United States, design 1952

The 'Oasis' sofa is designed by Edward Wormley for Dunbar. The construction is defined by a crescent shape with round edges and curved lines. The generous sized silhouette highlights the streamlined organic shape. Free from unnecessary decorations, the sofa is characterized by utter simplicity and precise scaling. The biomorphic profile is not only visually appealing, but also offers excellent comfort due to the ergonomic quality of the seat. The inward-facing ends of the frame are slightly higher compared to the center section, which function as both armrests and backrests. This sofa can be placed in the middle of one's interior or away from the wall, creating a lively and dynamic flow in the room.

Edward Wormley (1907–1995), was born in rural Illinois, United States. As a young man, he was passionate about design and enrolled in the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1926, but left due to financial issues and began working for an interior design company. He later joined the Dunbar Furniture Company in Indiana, where he served as director of design for almost 40 years. Following World War Two, he became an independent design consultant. Wormley passed away in 1995, but his legacy of creating elegant and high-quality furniture lives on. He was a master in combining classical 20th century design with modern innovations.
