Atelier C. Demoyen (Claude de Moyen) gained prominence as a workshop recognized for crafting, among others, Pierre Chapo's designs. Consequently, their own furniture creations bear the hallmark of impeccable craftsmanship and the use of premium quality materials. Situated in a small French municipality of Moncel-lès-Lunéville, their operations commenced around 1976. Their body of work is distinguished by the primary utilization of solid wood, expertly constructed through intricate wood joinery techniques. The present set is a striking example of this approach. Crafted from solid elmwood, the set exhibits a refined design that is both sleek and contemporary in appearance. The table features an oval-shaped top with smooth round edges. The base is comprised of outward-facing legs that follow a concave curvature, imparting the piece with a dynamic flow. The wood of the legs show a visually striking drawing of small knots and fine, way figures. The chairs have a strong angular form characterized by sharp contours and flat surfaces. The backrest is tall and rectangular, slightly slanted backwards for comfort, with a rectangular cutout at the bottom, adding visual lightness to the otherwise solid form. The seat is divided into three sections, defined by a slight incline. The four legs are splayed outward at a diagonal angle, giving the chair a dynamic stance. All in all, this set has a rustic, handcrafted appearance with an emphasize on harmonious compositions, simplicity, and natural materials, making it suitable for both a modern and country-style interior.
