The original version of the 'Oxford' chair was designed for the professors at St. Catherine’s College in Oxford. Later on, Arne Jacobsen developed the design into different models. The 3272 features an extra high back that shows an organic line and floats over into the seat. This shell is build out of moulded wood covered with foam and upholstered in greenish yellow fabric. The armrests as well as the five-star base with round feet are shown in satin-polished aluminium.

Arne Jacobsen (1902-1971), originally trained as an architect is also well-known for his furniture. It was only later in his career that Jacobsen created the pieces that he is now most known for. One of Jacobsen's main aims was to reduce material input to achieve clean visual lines. Technical quality and ergonomics were, however, not affected by the reduction. What is interesting is that where he followed mainly cubist functionalism in his architecture, he nevertheless mainly preferred organic forms in the design of his furniture. What all his works have in common however is the application of the right proportions, both within a piece of furniture and in its relationship to the room.

Reupholstery can be done before shipping by our experienced craftsmen and -women in our own in-house restoration atelier.
