Angelo Mangiarotti for Skipper, 'Executive 80' desk chair, collection 'Comput' leather, chromed aluminum, Italy, 1979

This Executive 80 chair by Angelo Mangiarotti for Skipper dates back to the late 1970s, a time when office furniture was starting to look a bit more sculptural and sleek. The base is quite substantial, almost chunky in appearance, with a five-star shape and a polished chrome finish that makes it pop against the darker leather seat. It’s got that heavy-duty, industrial flair typical of late-1970s office chairs, but Mangiarotti softened it by tapering and rounding the metal edges, so it looks hefty yet refined. Above that, the seat’s contours add to its whimsical appearance: the seating sort of swells out in a gentle curve, and the arms flow seamlessly from the same sculptural form. There aren't any abrupt lines or sharp transitions. Combined with the tall, slightly tapering back, it creates a cohesive silhouette that feels both solid and inviting.

Angelo Mangiarotti (1921-2012) was an Italian architect and Industrial designer with a reputation to mainly focus on the needs of the users of furniture. His designs are solid and strong and he always used materials that would stand the test of time. Being schooled as an architect, Mangiarotti was very precise in using the right materials and the right sizing for his designs.

Please be aware that the leather on the front of the armrests shows signs of wear. For further details, we encourage you to reach out to our team of design specialists.
