Aksel Bender Madsen for Bovenkamp Lounge Chair in Oak and Teak
Aksel Bender Madsen for Bovenkamp, lounge chair, teak and oak, fabric, Denmark, 1950s.
Madsen is known for his modest, minimalist designs. This lounge chair has armrests made out of teak while the rest of the frame is oak. The frame has a sculptural look by means of the open structure of the frame that is based on round forms combined with sharp lines. The brown color of the fabric highlights the warm tones of the wooden frame beautifully. The piece is exemplary for the Danish Modern period, which focused on form rather than merely function.
