1970s Italian Post-Modern Pair of Lounge Chairs in White Fiberglass
Pair of lounge chairs, fabric, fiberglass, Italy, 1970s
Who wouldn't fall in love with these armchairs? This peculiar design is rooted in the post-modern spirit of the seventies. The chair's frame is crafted from white fiberglass, a material celebrated during the period for its malleable properties, enabling designers to explore new, unconventional shapes. The overall form is bulky and geometric, featuring a robust, trapezoidal body. A standout feature are the rounded armrests that are draped over the edges, giving the chair a soft, cushioned appearance despite its substantial form. The seat and backrest are heavily padded, providing comfort while maintaining a blocky, almost sculptural aesthetic.
The turquoise-blue upholstery displays a bold, patterned textile with circular, almost mandala-like motifs, typical of the vibrant and experimental textile designs of the 1970s. The feet of this lounge chair are a distinctive design element, cleverly concealed beneath the fiberglass base and partially recessed so that only a small portion of each wooden ball is visible. Altogether, the chairs exude a dynamic, almost toy-like quality that will undoubtedly serve as striking elements in any interior.
Kindly note that the fabric is in used condition with signs of age and use, including wear marks and a hole.
