William C. Andrus for Steelcase, three-seat sofa, fiberglass, lucite, leather, United States, 1970s

The bright brown fiberglass shell rests on a transparent lucite base. Brown leather cushions are placed in the shell and provide great comfort. This sofa was part of the '465' series for the Soft Seating program in 1972. William C. Andrus created this particular appearance not only with modern materials in combination with natural leather upholstery but also the sheer form with its round edges and the 'flowing' base makes this sofa a design statement.
