Fristho, coffee table, rosewood and stainless steel, the Netherlands, 1960s The rectangular top is made with rosewood veneer slats, in wonderful different tones. The warm expression of the rectangular top beautifully contrasts to the thin tubular steel legs. At the end of the legs there are slightly tapered rosewood tips, that form a very refined detail. The well sized coffee table has a floating character, due to the inwards position of the thin legs. Marked with Fristho label on the bottom. Fristho (1921-1978) was a design manufacturer in the north of The Netherlands. Jean Baptist Merckx and Gustaaf Andries de Vries founded the company. They and American design. In the 1960s, Fristho advertised themselves with being 'No. 1 in Nordic design'. At the same time Fristho was rooted in Dutch functionalism which created furniture that was well-constructed, objective and timeless.
