Thonet, pair of armchairs, wood, original patinated leather, brass, Austria, 1920s

A stunning pair of Art Deco armchairs by Thonet, produced in the 1920s. The chairs feature the architect-designed Viennese bentwood furniture in the Secession style, a genre that was born at the start of the new century. The chairs shapes and motifs show that Thonet did not remain unaffected by the Jugendstil movement, for instance visible at the expressive graphics in the backrest. The leather seat is attached to the frame with brass nails. Both the wooden frame and the leather show patina that contributes to the authentic look of the piece. Both chairs feature a 'Thonet' label.
