Mauro Martini for Fratelli, 'Picchio' table lamp, brown coated aluminium, Italy, 1960s.

This postmodern table lamp is designed by Mauro Martini for Fratelli. The name Picchio, meaning woodpecker in English, is taken from the shape of this lamp that somewhat resembles that shape of a bird. The lamp is made of a metal base and shade. Interesting detail is the solid metal globe that is attached to the stem of the shade and that thus counterbalances the shade. The shade is can be adjusted to different angles in order to prevent the glare from shining in your eyes or to create a spotlight on a desk. The piece is still completely original with the authentic light switch still intact and the brown coating of the metal shows a patina that gives this piece a raw aesthetic that matches the industrial design well.
