Jan Vlug, console, wengé and mahogany, Belgium, 1970s
Rare and exclusive console table with characteristic graphical base and stunning made table top. The base is made of lacquered mahogany wood. It consists of two elements, build up from 3 legs that are connected with wooden slats at different heights. The legs are positioned in a triangle, which creates a beautiful visual effect. This repeated rhythm of the legs is a trademark of Belgian designer Jan Vlug.
The table top is executed with wengé in rectangular sections by using the end-grain wood technique. End-grain cut is particularly strong and shows a very refined patterned grain. This technique was mainly used by Jan Vlug's close friend Jules Wabbes.
Provenance: This table comes from the house of Jan Vlug in Bruxelles, BE.
