Jacques Chambron and Robert Guillerme, cabinet, oak, France, 1950s.

This sculptural sideboard by Guillerme and Chambron is very well executed and made out of solid, carved blond oak. The oak has been inlayed into different angles, which creates a geometric pattern. The cabinet features different heights and plenty storage facilities such as shelves, sliding doors and planks. The piece is typical for the design of Guillerme and Chambron in both the combination of different colors and patterns in the cabinet. The French designer duo Jacques Chambron (1914-2001) and Robert Guillerme (1913-1990) started their production in the postwar period. Many of the furniture designed by this duo this piece shows a strong character and has a great expressive woodwork. The duo installed themselves in an old factory were the machinery was used to make rifles. Guillerme & Chambron saw the potential of this machinery and decided to continue production as it was installed and used them for the design of their high back chairs. The line of different furniture pieces was made in small editions. They call their collection “Votre Maison” which means “Your home”.
